ועד להכנסת אורחים ברוקלין
Under the leadership of the Sanzer Rebbe, Harav Baruch Halberstam shlit"a
A home away from home for every guest who comes to Brooklyn.
For 26 years, since Tammuz 5761 (2001), the Vaad has given guests a warm bed and a hearty meal: families in town for a simcha, patients and their families, meshulachim and travelers. Today that is more than 45 apartments in Boro Park and Williamsburg and over 25,000 nights of lodging a year.
Our story
א גאסט אין שטעטל, פארמאטערט און אויסגעמוטשעט – אבער וואו גייט מען?!
Most Jews who find themselves far from home aren't here for comfort. They come to collect tzedakah, or for medical care, and their families need a roof over their heads. A bench in the beis medrash is no answer.
26 years ago, in Tammuz 5761, the Sanzer Rebbe, Harav Baruch Halberstam shlit"a, rented an apartment for one Jew who came for medical treatment. From that one case grew a network of chesed in Boro Park and Williamsburg.
Today the Vaad runs about 45 apartments with hundreds of beds. Many are lent by generous people, and the Vaad takes care of the rest: cleaning, linens, maintenance and more, with clear rules set according to da'as Torah.
What we offer
Complete apartments for families and women visiting for a simcha, medical care or other needs.
Single rooms for men: roshei yeshiva, meshulachim, and anyone who finds himself without a place for the night.
Lodging for patients and their families during treatment or a hospital stay, so they can stay close to the people they love.
Meals arranged for our guests so that no one spends Shabbos or Yom Tov alone or without a proper seudah.
Every apartment comes with fresh linens and towels, and the basics to warm food for Shabbos.
Inside our apartments

“Our 25,000 guests arrive cold and worn out, and leave fresh, lively and strengthened. Here they find warmth and life that carry them through all the troubles of the day.”

From the Sanzer Rebbe shlit"a
“Baruch Hashem, we have had the merit for 26 years to stand at the head of the holy hachnusas orchim project. We cannot begin to say how many Jews tell us that the Vaad truly saved their lives. And those who help, with money or by lending apartments, tell of open, wondrous yeshuos. Practicing chesed brings down chesed and rachamim from Heaven.”
Harav Baruch Halberstam shlit"a, the Sanzer Rebbe
Rays of light
א אורח וואס ברענגט א אור"ך פון הימל
What Jews have merited through the mitzvah of hachnusas orchim.
A Jew who had not been blessed with children for years after his chasunah went in to the Mattersdorfer Rebbe zt"l, who told him clearly: make a hachnusas orchim room and you will be helped. He set to it right away, and the next year celebrated a bris milah, b'siman tov.
Owners who buy old houses to rebuild often leave them empty while plans are drawn, and lend them to the Vaad for guests in the meantime. Several told us that on other projects they had to struggle through violations and permits, but with houses used by the Vaad everything went through smoothly, without a single stop order.

For the community
Much of the Vaad's housing comes from generous people: an apartment between tenants, a house waiting to be rebuilt, a place that sits empty while you're away. There are two ways to help.
